A method and apparatus to compensate for spectral attenuation are
described wherein the spectral attenuation for a communications channel
is determined, a first filter is created for the attenuation and the
first filter compensates for the attenuation. The spectral attenuation
for the communications channel is determined by a received L sequence
signal that is used to model the spectral attenuation as a second filter.
