This invention provides novel oxazolidinone derivatives represented by chemical Formula (I), or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof: ##STR1## wherein X is NR.sub.1, CR.sub.2 R.sub.3, O, S, SO, or SO.sub.2 ; and Z is NR.sub.4, S, SO, SO.sub.2 or O. The compounds are useful antimicrobial agents, effective against a number of human and veterinary pathogens, including gram-positive aerobic bacteria such as multiply-resistant staphylococci and streptococci, as well as anaerobic organisms such as bacteroides and clostridia species, and acid-fast organisms such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium.

Diese Erfindung liefert die Roman oxazolidinone Ableitungen, die durch chemische Formel (i) dargestellt werden, oder pharmazeutisch die annehmbaren Salze davon: ## STR1 ## worin X NR.sub.1, CR.sub.2 R.sub.3, O, S, SO oder SO.sub.2 ist; und Z ist NR.sub.4, S, SO, SO.sub.2 oder O. Die Mittel sind die nützlichen antibiotischen Mittel, die gegen eine Anzahl von menschlichen und Veterinärkrankheitserregern, einschließlich grampositives aerobes Bakterium wie multiplizieren-beständige Staphylokokken und Streptokokken, sowie anaerobe organismen wie bacteroides und Clostridiumsorten und acid-fast organismen wie Mykobakteriumtuberkulose und Mykobakterium avium wirkungsvoll sind.
