The compounds according to the general formula ##STR1## in which formula the dotted lines indicate a single or a double bond, n and m are 0 or 1, R.sup.1 is hydrogen or an acyl group --C(O)R.sup.3, R.sup.3 being a linear or branched alkyl or alkylene group from C.sub.1 to C.sub.8, the oxygen atom being bound to the adjacent .alpha.-carbon atom by a double bond in the case where n is 0 and by a single bond in the case where n is 1, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a linear or branched alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy group from C.sub.1 to C.sub.8, or R.sup.2 is an alkenoxy group which is linked to the group R.sup.1 to form a 1,3-dioxolane cycle having 5 to 7 ring members, are useful perfuming ingredients. The most preferred compounds according to the invention are those which have a damascone- or damascenone-like structure, with the methyl substituent being in 4-position of the ring instead of the 2-position, as is the case in damascones and damascenones.

Les composés selon le ## général du ## STR1 de formule dans quelle formule les lignes pointillées indiquent que une seuls ou doubles obligation, n et m sont 0 ou 1, R.sup.1 est hydrogène ou un groupe d'acyle -- C(O)R.sup.3, R.sup.3 étant un alkyl ou un groupe linéaire ou embranché d'alkylène de C.sub.1 à C.sub.8, l'atome d'oxygène étant lié à l'atome adjacent de alpha.-carbone par une double obligation dans le cas où n est 0 et par une obligation simple dans le cas où n est 1, R.sup.2 est hydrogène ou un groupe alkoxy alkylique, alcényl ou linéaire ou embranché de C.sub.1 à C.sub.8, ou R.sup.2 est un groupe d'alkenoxy qui est lié aux groupez R.sup.1 pour former un cycle 1,3-dioxolane ayant 5 à 7 membres d'anneau, soyez utile en parfumant des ingrédients. Les composés les plus préférés selon l'invention sont ceux qui ont un damascone- ou damascenone-comme la structure, avec le substituant méthylique étant dans 4-position de l'anneau au lieu du 2-position, de même que le cas dans les damascones et les damascenones.
