A pharmaceutical composition is disclosed to treat viral infections, particularly HIV and hepatitis, as well as to treat fungal infections of the genus cryptococcus neoformans or curvularai lunata. The composition comprises from about 10 mg to about 6000 mg of a 2-thienyl-imidazolo [4,5]pyridine of the formula: ##STR1## wherein n is from 1 to 4, R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl having from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, chloro, bromo or fluoro, oxychloro, hydroxy, sulfhydryl, alkoxy having the formula --O(CH.sub.2).sub.y CH.sub.3 wherein y is from 1 to 6, the prodrugs thereof, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The preferred anti-viral compound is ##STR2## or its hydrochloride salt.

Una composizione farmaceutica è rilevata per trattare le infezioni virali, specialmente HIV ed epatite, così come per trattare le infezioni da fungo del genere neoformans del criptococco o lunata di curvularai. La composizione contiene da magnesio circa 10 a magnesio circa 6000 di un 2-thienyl-imidazolo [ 4,5]pyridine della formula: ## del ## STR1 in cui la n è 1 - 4, la R è scelta dall'idrogeno consistente del gruppo, alchile che ha 1 - 7 atomi di carbonio, cloro, il bromo o fluoro, oxychloro, idrossilato, solfidrilico, alcossi avendo la formula -- O(CH.sub.2).sub.y CH.sub.3 in cui y è 1 - 6, i prodrugs di ciò ed i sali farmaceuticamente accettabili di ciò. Il residuo antivirale preferito è ## del ## STR2 o il relativo sale del cloridrato.
