Traffic in an intelligent communications network having a distributed processing environment is controlled using software objects corresponding to respective components of the network. Each object is associated with a respective service element parameter (SEP) and writes its SEP to a SEP field of each generated request. In the event that the request is generated in response to receipt at the object of a request sent from another object, the contents of the SEP field of the received request may also be included in the SEP field of the generated request. While an object is in overload state it rejects newly received requests if the contents of their SEP fields is less than a threshold. If the object is already handling a request, a newly received request will take priority if it has a higher SEP value. The request which gives way may be rejected, or may have its processing suspended.

Verkehr in einem intelligenten Kommunikationsnetz, das ein Verarbeitungklima hat, ist mit den Software-Gegenständen kontrolliert, die jeweiligen Bestandteilen des Netzes entsprechen. Jeder GegenstandIST mit einem jeweiligen Service-Elementparameter (SEPT) verbunden und schreibt seinen SEPT bis einem SEPT auffangen von jedem erzeugten Antrag. Im Falle daß der Antrag in Erwiderung auf den Empfang am Gegenstand eines Antrags erzeugt wird, der von einem anderen Gegenstand gesendet wird, fängt der Inhalt des SEPT vom empfangenen Antrag kann im SEPT auch eingeschlossen werden auffängt vom erzeugten Antrag auf. Während ein Gegenstand im Überlastung Zustand ist, weist er eben empfangene Anträge, wenn der Inhalt von ihrem SEPT ist kleiner auffängt, als eine Schwelle zurück. Wenn der Gegenstand bereits einen Antrag anfaßt, nimmt ein eben empfangener Antrag Priorität, wenn er einen höheren SEPT Wert hat. Der Antrag, der nachgibt, kann zurückgewiesen werden, oder kann seine Verarbeitung verschieben lassen.
