The invention relates to compounds of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.10 are each independently of the other lower alkoxycarbonyl; either R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently of the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and R.sub.7, R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 are each selected from hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, with not more than 2 of the radicals being hydrogen; or R.sub.7, R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 are each independently of the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each selected from hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, with 1 or 2 of the radicals being hydrogen; R.sub.5 is phenyl or cyclohexyl; and R.sub.6 is phenyl or cyanophenyl; or salts thereof; those compounds are inhibitors of retroviral aspartate proteases and are effective, for example, against HIV.

La invención se relaciona con los compuestos del fórmula (i): ## del ## STR1 en donde R.sub.1 y R.sub.10 son cada uno independientemente del otro alkoxycarbonyl más bajo; cualquier R.sub.2, R.sub.3 y R.sub.4 son cada uno independientemente del otro C.sub.1 - el alkyl C.sub.4 y R.sub.7, R.sub.8 y R.sub.9 cada uno se seleccionan del hidrógeno y de C.sub.1 - el alkyl C.sub.4, con no más que 2 de los radicales que son hidrógeno; o R.sub.7, R.sub.8 y R.sub.9 son cada uno independientemente del otro C.sub.1 - el alkyl C.sub.4 y R.sub.2, R.sub.3 y R.sub.4 cada uno se seleccionan del hidrógeno y de C.sub.1 - el alkyl C.sub.4, con 1 o 2 de los radicales que son hidrógeno; R.sub.5 es fenilo o cyclohexyl; y R.sub.6 es fenilo o cyanophenyl; o sales de eso; esos compuestos son inhibidores de los proteases retroviral del aspartate y son eficaces, por ejemplo, contra el VIH.
