A highly safe therapeutic agent for intractable vasculitis such as
malignant rheumatoid arthritis contains a hydantoin derivative represented
by the formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an
effective ingredient:

wherein each of R.sub.1, and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different,
represents hydrogen, an alkyl group or a cycloalkyl group; and each of X
and Y, which may be the same or different, represents hydrogen, a hydroxyl
group, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group, or X and Y together represent an
oxo group. The hydantoin derivatives significantly suppress the generation
of arthritis and arteritis (cutaneous ulcer and auricular infarcted
necrosis) which are naturally developed in model animals (MRL/lpr), and
further significantly elongate the survival rate of MRL/lpr mice.
Consequently, the hydantoin derivatives, having low toxicity and little
side effects are very useful as highly safe therapeutic agents for
intractable vasculitis such as malignant rheumatoid arthritis.
Ein in hohem Grade sicheres therapeutisches Mittel für unlenksamen Vasculitis wie bösartige rheumatoid Arthritis enthält eine Hydantoinableitung, die durch die Formel (i) oder ein pharmazeutisch annehmbares Salz davon als wirkungsvoller Bestandteil dargestellt wird: ## STR1 ## worin jedes von R.sub.1 und R.sub.2, das dasselbe oder das unterschiedlich sein kann, Wasserstoff, eine Alkylgruppe oder eine cycloalkyl Gruppe darstellt; und jedes von X und Y, die dieselben oder das unterschiedlich sein können, stellt Wasserstoff, eine Hydroxylgruppe, eine Alkylgruppe oder eine alkoxy Gruppe oder X und Y darstellt zusammen eine Oxogruppe dar. Die Hydantoinableitungen unterdrücken erheblich das Erzeugung von Arthritis und von arteritis (Haut- Geschwür und auricular infarcted Nekrose) die natürlich in den vorbildlichen Tieren (MRL/lpr) entwickelt werden, und weiter verlängern Sie erheblich die Überleben Rate der MRL/lpr Mäuse. Infolgedessen sind die Hydantoinableitungen, niedrige Giftigkeit und wenig Nebenwirkungen habend sehr nützlich als in hohem Grade sichere therapeutische Mittel für unlenksamen Vasculitis wie bösartige rheumatoid Arthritis.
