Human gene GC6 is expressed more abundantly in senescent cells than young cells. Isolated, purified, and recombinant nucleic acids and proteins corresponding to the human GC6 gene and its mRNA and protein products, as well as peptides and antibodies corresponding to the GC6 protein can be used to identify senescent cells, distinguish between senescent and young cells, identify agents that alter senescent gene expression generally and GC6 expression specifically; such agents as well as GC6 gene and gene products and products corresponding thereto can be used to prevent and treat diseases and conditions relating to cell senescence.

Il gene umano GC6 è espresso più abbondantemente in cellule senescenti che le cellule giovani. Isolati, purificato e gli acidi nucleici recombinant e proteine che corrispondono al gene umano GC6 ed il relativo mRNA e prodotti della proteina, come pure i peptidi ed anticorpi che corrispondono alla proteina GC6 possono essere usati per identificare le cellule senescenti, si distinguono fra senescente e le cellule giovani, identifichi gli agenti che alterano generalmente l'espressione senescente del gene e l'espressione GC6 specificamente; tali agenti come pure i prodotti del gene GC6 e del gene ed i prodotti che corrispondono a ciò possono essere usati per impedire e trattare le malattie e le circostanze per quanto riguarda la senescenza delle cellule.
