The invention provides an aqueous hair styling aid comprising a volatile silicone selected from cyclic silicones having the general formula (I): [(CH.sub.3).sub.2 Si--O--].sub.n (I) wherein n=3-7, and short chain linear silicones having the general formula (II): (CH.sub.3).sub.3 Si--O--[Si(CH.sub.3).sub.2 O].sub.n Si(CH.sub.3).sub.3 (II) wherein n=1-7; together with hairstyling polymer, surfactant and at least 5% water.
