A process for producing a copolymer of an a, .beta.-unsaturated monormer having at least one pendant unit selected from a carboxylic acid group and derivatives thereof, and a copolymersable monomer is described in which the process is carried out in a single solvent which is particularly an aromatic solvent. Processes of controlling the reaction and the particle size of the polymer produced are also described.

Ein Prozeß für das Produzieren eines Copolymers eines a, des beta.-ungesättigten monormer, das mindestens eine hängende Maßeinheit vorgewählt wird von einer Gruppe der karboxylhaltigen Säure und von den Ableitungen davon haben, und der copolymersable Monomere wird beschrieben, in der der Prozeß in einem einzelnen Lösungsmittel durchgeführt wird, das besonders ein aromatisches Lösungsmittel ist. Prozesse des Steuerns der Reaktion und der Teilchengröße des produzierten Polymer-Plastiks werden auch beschrieben.
