A control ratio (.gamma.) of a distance deviation (.DELTA.d) to a target distance (dm) is obtained to control a space between two traveling vehicles. The distance deviation (.DELTA.d) is the difference between an actual distance (d) and the target distance (dm). A target control quantity, such as acceleration, engine torque or vehicle speed, is determined in accordance with the obtained control ratio (.gamma.) so as to equalize the actual distance (d) to the target distance (dm).

Een controleverhouding (gamma.) van een afstandsafwijking (DELTA.d) aan een doelafstand wordt (dm) verkregen om een ruimte tussen twee reizende voertuigen te controleren. De afstandsafwijking (DELTA.d) is het verschil tussen een daadwerkelijke afstand (d) en de doelafstand (dm). Een hoeveelheid van de doelcontrole, zoals versnelling, motortorsie of voertuigsnelheid, wordt bepaald overeenkomstig de verkregen controleverhouding (gamma.) om de daadwerkelijke afstand (d) aan de doelafstand (dm) gelijk te maken.
