Compounds of formula (I) ##STR1## in which R is in which R is hydrogen, a straight or branched or cyclic C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 10 oxygen atoms, or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl group, optionally interrupted by a phenylene, in turn substituted by a straight or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl groups; the phenylene group being unsubstituted or substituted by alkoxy, carboxy, sulfamoyl, hydroxyalkyl, amino groups; as well as its complexes with a bi- or trivalent metal ion having an atomic number from 20 to 31, 39, 42, 43, 44, 49, or from 57 to 83, as well as its salts with anions of physiologically acceptable organic acids chelated complexes of these compounds are used as contrast agents for nuclear magnetic resonance imaging.

Compostos do ## do ## STR1 da fórmula (I) em que R está em que R é o hidrogênio, um C.sub.1 reto ou ramificado ou cíclico - grupo C.sub.6, unsubstituted alkyl ou substituído por 1 a 10 átomos de oxigênio, ou por um C.sub.1 - o grupo C.sub.20 alkyl, interrompidos opcionalmente por um phenylene, por sua vez substituído por um C.sub.1 reto ou ramificado - grupo C.sub.6 alkyl, unsubstituted ou substituído por 1 a 3 C.sub.1 - grupos C.sub.7 alkyl; o grupo do phenylene que é unsubstituted ou substituído por alkoxy, carboxy, sulfamoyl, grupos hydroxyalkyl, amino; as.well.as seus complexos com um íon bi- ou trivalent do metal que tem um número atômico de 20 a 31, a 39, a 42, a 43, a 44, a 49, ou 57 a 83, as.well.as seus sais com os anions de complexos chelated physiologically aceitáveis dos ácidos orgânicos destes compostos são usados como agentes do contraste para a imagem latente de resonance magnético nuclear.
