A class of 2'-fluoro-nucleoside compounds are disclosed which are useful in the treatment of hepatitis B infection, hepatitis C infection, HIV and abnormal cellular proliferation, including tumors and cancer. The compounds have the general formulae: ##STR1## wherein Base is a purine or pyrimidine base; R.sup.1 is OH, H, OR.sup.3, N.sub.3, CN, halogen, including F, or CF.sub.3, lower alkyl, amino, loweralkylamino, di(lower)alkylamino, or alkoxy, and base refers to a purine or pyrimidine base; R.sup.2 is H, phosphate, including monophosphate, diphosphate, triphosphate, or a stabilized phosphate prodrug; acyl, or other pharmaceutically acceptable leaving group which when administered in vivo, is capable of providing a compound wherein R.sup.2 is H or phosphate; sulfonate ester including alkyl or arylalkyl sulfonyl including methanesulfonyl, benzyl, wherein the phenyl group is optionally substituted with one or more substituents as described in the definition of aryl given above, a lipid, an amino acid, peptide, or cholesterol; and R.sup.3 is acyl, alkyl, phosphate, or other pharmaceutically acceptable leaving group which when administered in vivo, is capable of being cleaved to the parent compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

Een klasse van 2'-fluoro-nucleoside samenstellingen wordt onthuld die in de behandeling van hepatitisB besmetting, hepatitisc besmetting, HIV en abnormale cellulaire proliferatie, met inbegrip van tumors en kanker nuttig zijn. De samenstellingen hebben de algemene formules: ## STR1 ## waarin De basis is een purine of pyrimidine basis; R.sup.1 is OH, H, OR.sup.3, N.sub.3, CN, halogeen, met inbegrip van F, of CF.sub.3, lagere alkyl, amino, loweralkylamino, di(lower)alkylamino, of alkoxy, en de basis verwijst naar een purine of pyrimidine basis; R.sup.2 is H, fosfaat, met inbegrip van monofosfaat, difosfaat, trifosfaat, of gestabiliseerde fosfaatprodrug; acyl, of andere farmaceutisch aanvaardbare weggaande groep die wanneer in vivo beheerd, kunnen een samenstelling verstrekken waarin R.sup.2 H of fosfaat is; sulfonaat ester met inbegrip van alkyl of arylalkyl sulfonyl met inbegrip van benzyl methanesulfonyl, waarin de phenyl groep naar keuze met één of meerdere substituenten zoals die in de bovengenoemde definitie van aryl, een lipide, een aminozuur, peptide, of een cholesterol wordt beschreven wordt gesubstitueerd; en R.sup.3 is acyl, alkyl, fosfaat, of andere farmaceutisch aanvaardbare weggaande groep die wanneer in vivo beheerd, aan de oudersamenstelling, of een farmaceutisch aanvaardbaar zout kan daarvan worden gespleten.
