A portion of the mandible is resected to leave a bony gap. The elongated plate is received within the channel of the cover, and the cover is received within the bony gap to alleviate growth of soft tissue against the elongated plate. Screw fasteners received through the apertures of the elongated plate secure the plate to the mandible.
