A sunscreen composition containing a UV-B dibenzoylmethane derivative, such as 4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane (PARSOL 1789), and a stabilizer/solubilizer for the dibenzoylmethane derivative selected from formula (I) and formula (II), and mixtures thereof: ##STR1## wherein m=5, 7, 9 or mixtures and n=4, 6, 8 or mixtures; ##STR2## wherein p1 m=5, 7 or mixtures and n=4, 6 or mixtures. These long branched chain alkyl hydroxybenzoates and long branched chain benzoates having a C.sub.4.sup.+ branch at the 2 position are quite effective in stabilizing the dibenzoylmethane derivative UV-B filter compounds making them more effective; effective for longer periods of time.

A sunscreen la composición que contiene un derivado del dibenzoylmethane de UV-B, tal como 4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane (PARSOL 1789), y un stabilizer/solubilizer para el derivado del dibenzoylmethane seleccionado del fórmula (i) y el fórmula (ii), y las mezclas de eso: ## del ## STR1 en donde m=5, 7, 9 o mezclas y n=4, 6, 8 o mezclas; ## del ## STR2 en donde p1 m=5, 7 o mezclas y n=4, 6 o mezclas. Estos hydroxybenzoates alkyl de cadena ramificados largos y benzoatos de cadena de largo ramificados que tienen un rama de C.sub.4.sup.+ en la posición 2 son absolutamente eficaces en estabilizar los compuestos derivados del filtro del dibenzoylmethane UV-B que los hacen más eficaces; eficaz por períodos del tiempo más largos.
