This invention provides a process for the preparation of 5-methoxy-4-(methylthioalkyl)-1,3-bis(phenylmethyl)-2-imidazolidone having general formula (2a-d) ##STR1## [wherein R.dbd.--CH.sub.2 COCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 COOMe (2a); --CH.sub.2 CH(OMe).sub.2 (2b); --CH.sub.2 COOMe(2c); --H (2d)] which comprises reacting a reducing agent with 6-benzyl-7-methoxy-3-phenylperhydroimidazo[1,5-c][1.3]thiozol-5-one in the presence of an organic solvent for a period ranging from 0.5 to 2 hrs at a temperature ranging from -78.degree. C. to 80.degree. C., evaporating the solvent and reacting the residue with an alkylating reagent, optionally in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst and an inorganic base in an organic solvent for a period ranging from 10-12 hrs at room temperature, evaporating the solvent followed by purification to obtain the desired compound of general formula 2 a-d.

Esta invención proporciona un proceso para la preparación de 5-methoxy-4-(methylthioalkyl)-1,3-bis(phenylmethyl)-2-imidazolidone que tiene ## general del ## STR1 del fórmula (2a-d) [ en donde R.dbd. -- CH.sub.2 COCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 COOMe (2a); -- CH.sub.2 CH(OMe).sub.2 (2b); -- CH.sub.2 COOMe(2c); --H (2.o) ] que abarca reaccionar un agente de reducción con 6-benzyl-7-methoxy-3-phenylperhydroimidazo[1,5-c][1.3]thiozol-5-one en la presencia de un solvente orgánico por un período que se extiende a partir de la 0.5 a 2 horas en una temperatura que se extiende de -78.degree. C. a 80.degree. C., evaporando el solvente y reaccionando el residuo con un reactivo alkylating, opcionalmente en la presencia de un catalizador de la transferencia de la fase y una base inorgánica en un solvente orgánico por un período que se extiende a partir de 10-12 horas en la temperatura ambiente, evaporando el solvente seguido por la purificación para obtener el compuesto deseado del anuncio general del fórmula 2.
