The invention relates to processes for preparing a compound of the formula ##STR1## and the enantiomer of said compound, wherein the benzoic acid moiety is attached at position 6 or 7 of the chroman ring, and R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are as defined herein. The invention further relates to intermediates that are useful in the preparation of the compound of formula X above.
