A system of downhole communication and control is provided in methods and associated apparatus for data retrieval, monitoring and tool actuation. In a described embodiment, an item of equipment installed in a tubular string has a first communication device associated therewith. A tool conveyed into the tubular string has a second communication device therein. Communication is established between the first and second devices. Such communication may be utilized to control operation of the tool, retrieve status information regarding the item of equipment, supply power to the first device and/or identify the item of equipment to the tool.

Een systeem van downhole mededeling en controle wordt verstrekt in methodes en bijbehorende apparaten voor gegevensherwinning, controle en hulpmiddelaandrijving. In een beschreven belichaming, heeft een punt van materiaal dat in een tubulair koord wordt geïnstalleerd een eerste communicatie daarmee bijbehorend apparaat. Een hulpmiddel dat in het tubulaire koord wordt vervoerd heeft daarin een tweede communicatie apparaat. De mededeling wordt gevestigd tussen de eerste en tweede apparaten. Dergelijke mededeling kan worden gebruikt om verrichting van het hulpmiddel te controleren, statusinformatie betreffende het punt van materiaal terug te winnen, macht te leveren aan het eerste apparaat en/of het punt van materiaal te identificeren aan het hulpmiddel.
