Apparatus and method which allow an SNMP managed device to register with a Network Management system. The SNMP managed device generates and transmits, to the Management Station or other network stations, a Frame indicating that the managed device is present in the network. The process of transmitting the frame continues until the Management Station responds with a frame acknowledging receipt. The managed device then sets a Timer and monitors for receipt of the Response frame from said Management Station. If the timer expires and the Response frame is not received within the timer interval, the registration process is initiated. Thus, the invention discloses a dynamic way of registering, monitoring and initiating registration (if contact is lost) of an SNMP device with a Management Station.

O instrumento e o método que permitem um SNMP controlaram o dispositivo registar com um sistema de gerência da rede. O dispositivo controlado SNMP gera e transmite, à estação da gerência ou a outras estações da rede, um quadro que indica que o dispositivo controlado está atual na rede. O processo de transmitir o frame continua até que a estação da gerência responda com um recibo reconhecendo do frame. O dispositivo controlado ajusta então um temporizador e monitores para o recibo do frame de resposta de estação dita da gerência. Se o temporizador expirar e o frame de resposta não estiver recebido dentro do intervalo do temporizador, o processo do registo está iniciado. Assim, a invenção divulga uma maneira dinâmica de registar, de monitorar e de iniciar o registo (se o contato é perdido) de um dispositivo do SNMP com uma estação da gerência.
