The invention relates to a water-based flame-retardant composition comprising at least one polyvinylpyrrolidone polymer, at least one silane coupling agent and at least one inorganic compound. The flame-retardant composition has low organic content and low toxicity. The flame-retardant composition may further comprise at least one polymeric emulsion and can be used as a coating or an adhesive. The invention also provides a flame-retardant article comprising a substrate and the flame-retardant composition disposed on a surface of the substrate.

De uitvinding heeft op een flame-retardant samenstelling betrekking op basis van water bestaand minstens uit één polyvinylpyrrolidone polymeer, minstens één agent van de silaankoppeling en minstens één anorganische samenstelling. De flame-retardant samenstelling heeft lage organische inhoud en lage giftigheid. De flame-retardant samenstelling kan minstens uit één polymere emulsie verder bestaan en kan als deklaag of kleefstof worden gebruikt. De uitvinding verstrekt ook een flame-retardant artikel bestaand uit een substraat en de flame-retardant samenstelling dat op een oppervlakte van het substraat wordt geschikt.
