A server provides a channel for previewing multimedia and a plurality of full screen multimedia channels. A client displays plural preview screens representing available multimedia channels from the server. Selection of a particular one of the plural preview screens at the client signals the server of the desired channel. The server then initiates streaming of the desired channel to the client. The server tracks the address of the user, the name of the stream and when the clip was started. After the client is finished viewing the stream another TCP connection is made to the server to unsubscribe. The server can therefore keep track of who has viewed which streams, for how long and at what time of the day. This method of tracking could also be used to track preview viewing.

Un assistente fornisce una scanalatura per vedere in anteprima le multimedia e una pluralità di scanalature di multimedia dello schermo pieno. Un cliente visualizza gli schermi plurali di previsione che rappresentano le scanalature disponibili di multimedia dall'assistente. La selezione di particolare della previsione plurale seleziona ai segnali del cliente l'assistente della scanalatura voluta. Il flusso continuo dei initiates dell'assistente allora della scanalatura voluta al cliente. L'assistente rintraccia l'indirizzo dell'utente, il nome del flusso e quando la clip è stata avviata. Dopo che il cliente sia rifinito che osserva il flusso un altro collegamento di TCP è fatto all'assistente a unsubscribe. L'assistente può quindi tenersi al corrente di chi ha osservato che flussi, per quanto tempo ed a quando del giorno. Questo metodo di inseguimento ha potuto anche essere usato per rintracciare l'osservazione di previsione.
