A method and apparatus for selecting a final image from an initial image wherein the final image and the initial image do not have the same aspect ration. The initial image is first resized so that the resized image has one of its dimensions equal to that of the final image. The resized image is placed at a position behind a mask having an opening, wherein the size of the opening is the same as the size of the final image and wherein the opening is substantially filled with a part of the resized image. The resize image is then moved to another position, wherein the opening is again substantially filled with a part of the resized image. The operator then selects the area of the resized image lying within the opening of the mask that he decides is the more pleasing view.

Eine Methode und ein Apparat für das Vorwählen eines abschließenden Bildes von einem Ausgangsbild, worin das abschließende Bild und das Ausgangsbild nicht die gleiche Aspektzuteilung haben. Das Ausgangsbild wird zuerst die Größe neu bestimmt, damit das die Größe neu bestimmte Bild eins seiner Maße hat, die dem des abschließenden Bildes gleich sind. Das die Größe neu bestimmte Bild wird in einer Position hinter eine Schablone gesetzt, die eine Öffnung hat, worin die Größe der Öffnung dieselbe wie die Größe des abschließenden Bildes ist und worin die Öffnung im wesentlichen mit einem Teil des die Größe neu bestimmten Bildes gefüllt wird. Das die Größe neu bestimmen Bild wird dann auf eine andere Position verschoben, worin die Öffnung wieder im wesentlichen mit einem Teil des die Größe neu bestimmten Bildes gefüllt wird. Der Operator wählt dann den Bereich des die Größe neu bestimmten Bildes vor, das innerhalb der Öffnung der Schablone liegt, die er ist die angenehmere Ansicht entscheidet.
