A pharmaceutical composition useful for the treatment of cancer in mamnmals, comprising as the active ingredient a therapeutically effective amount of a jasmonate of the formula: ##STR1## wherein: n is 0,1, or 2; R.sub.1 is OH, alkoxy, O-glucosyl, or imino; R.sub.2 is OH, O, alkoxy or O-glucosyl; R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are H, OH, alkoxy or O-glucosyl; and/or wherein R.sup.1 and R.sub.2, or R.sup.1 and R.sub.4 together form a lactone; and further wherein the bonds between C.sub.3 :C.sub.7, C.sub.4 :C.sub.5, and C.sub.9 :C.sub.10 may be double or single bonds; or a derivative of said formula; the derivative having at least one of the following: a lower acyl side chain at C.sub.3 (free acid, ester or conjugate); a keto or hydroxy (free hydroxy or ester) moiety at the C.sub.6 carbon; or an n-pentenyl or n-pentyl side chain at C.sub.7. These jasmonates are useful in treating a wide variety of malignancies.

Een farmaceutische samenstelling nuttig voor de behandeling van kanker die in mamnmals, als actief ingrediënt uit een therapeutisch efficiënte hoeveelheid jasmonate van de formule bestaat: ## STR1 ## waarin: n is 0.1, of 2; R.sub.1 is OH, alkoxy, o-Glucosyl, of imino; R.sub.2 is OH, O, alkoxy of o-Glucosyl; R.sub.3, R.sub.4 En R.sub.5 zijn H, OH, alkoxy of o-Glucosyl; en/of waarin R.sup.1 en R.sub.2, of R.sup.1 en R.sub.4 samen lactone vormen; en bevorder waarin de banden tussen C.sub.3:C.sub.7, C.sub.4:C.sub.5, en C.sub.9:C.sub.10 dubbele of enige banden kunnen zijn; of een derivaat van bovengenoemde formule; het derivaat dat minstens één van het volgende heeft: een lagere acyl zijketen bij C.sub.3 (vrije zuur, ester of stamverwant); keto of hydroxy (vrije hydroxy of ester) een deel bij de koolstof C.sub.6; of n-pentenyl of een n-amyl zijketen bij C.sub.7. Deze jasmonates zijn nuttig in het behandelen van een grote verscheidenheid van malignancies.
