The present invention relates to ester, ether and N-alkylcarbamoyl derivatives of compound (Ia) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. These compounds exhibit excellent antibacterial activity and are useful for the treatment or prevention of bacterial infections. ##STR1## (wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sup.2.sub.a is a hydrogen atom, a protecting group for a hydroxy group, or a methyl group; R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom or a protecting group for a hydroxy group; R.sup.4.sub.a is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group or a protected hydroxy group; R.sup.5 is a hydrogen atom or a protecting group for a hydroxy group; and X is a methylene group or a sulfur atom). The invention also includes compounds which are related to the aforeidentified compounds.

Die anwesende Erfindung bezieht auf Ester, Äther und N-alkylcarbamoyl Ableitungen des Mittels (Ia) und pharmazeutisch annehmbare Salze davon. Diese Mittel stellen ausgezeichnete antibakterielle Tätigkeit aus und sind für die Behandlung oder die Verhinderung der bakteriellen Infektion nützlich. ## STR1 ## (worin R.sup.1 ein Wasserstoffatom oder eine Methyl- Gruppe ist; R.sup.2.sub.a ist ein Wasserstoffatom, eine schützende Gruppe für eine Hydroxyl- Gruppe oder eine Methyl- Gruppe; R.sup.3 ist ein Wasserstoffatom oder eine schützende Gruppe für eine Hydroxyl- Gruppe; R.sup.4.sub.a ist ein Wasserstoffatom, eine Hydroxyl- Gruppe oder eine geschützte Hydroxyl- Gruppe; R.sup.5 ist ein Wasserstoffatom oder eine schützende Gruppe für eine Hydroxyl- Gruppe; und X ist eine Methylengruppe oder ein Schwefelatom). Die Erfindung schließt auch Mittel mit ein, die mit aforeidentified Mittel zusammenhängen.
