A device and method for separating heavier and lighter fractions of a fluid
sample. The device includes a plurality of constituents comprising a
container and a composite element in the container. The composite element
is a separator comprising at least two components and more particularly, a
bellows with a seal body, a low-density float and a high-density ballast.
A fluid sample is delivered to the container and the device is subjected
to centrifugation whereby the centrifugal load causes the seal body of the
separator to deform so that the separator migrates through the fluid
sample and then stabilizes between the heavier and lighter fractions of
the fluid sample. The seal body of the separator will resiliently return
to its initial configuration upon termination of the centrifugal load such
that the seal body sealingly engages the container and the composite
element separates the heavier and lighter fractions of the fluid sample.
Een apparaat en een methode om zwaardere en lichtere fracties van een vloeibare steekproef te scheiden. Het apparaat omvat een meerderheid van constituenten bestaand uit een container en uit een samengesteld element in de container. Het samengestelde element is een separator bestaand minstens uit twee componenten en meer in het bijzonder, blaasbalgen met een verbindingslichaam, een vlotter met geringe dichtheid en een high-density ballast. Een vloeibare steekproef wordt geleverd aan de container en het apparaat wordt onderworpen aan centrifugeren waardoor de centrifugaallading het verbindingslichaam van de separator om ertoe beweegt te misvormen zodat de separator door de vloeibare steekproef migreert en dan tussen de zwaardere en lichtere fracties van de vloeibare steekproef stabiliseert. Het verbindingslichaam van de separator zal veerkrachtig op zijn aanvankelijke configuratie op beëindiging van de centrifugaallading terugkomen dusdanig dat het verbindingslichaam sealingly de container in dienst neemt en het samengestelde element de zwaardere en lichtere fracties van de vloeibare steekproef scheidt.
