A particle coated with a nonlamellar crystalline material includes an
internal matrix core having at least one nanostructured liquid phase, or
at least one nanostructured liquid crystalline phase or a combination of
the two is used for the delivery of active agents such as pharmaceuticals,
nutrients, pesticides, etc. The coated particle can be fabricated by a
variety of different techniques where the exterior coating is a
nonlamellar crystalline material.
