The present invention relates to a transgenic plant which comprises a recombinant gene encoding one of the subunit proteins of adenosine diphosphoglucose pyrophosphorylase ("ADPG PPase"). In plants, functional ADPG PPase holoenzyme is a heterotetrameric protein composed of two subunits, each encoded by a different gene. The present invention shows that the activity of ADPG PPase in the cell of plants can be increased by expressing only one of the two subunit proteins required to make an active enzyme.

A invenção atual relaciona-se a uma planta transgenic que compreenda um gene recombinant que codifica uma das proteínas do subunit do pyrophosphorylase do diphosphoglucose da adenosina ("ADPG PPase"). Nas plantas, o holoenzyme funcional de ADPG PPase é uma proteína heterotetrameric composta de dois subunits, cada uma codificados por um gene diferente. A invenção atual mostra que a atividade de ADPG PPase na pilha das plantas pode ser aumentada expressando somente uma das duas proteínas do subunit requeridas para fazer um enzyme ativo.
