A process for the production of 4-thiazolylmethyl derivatives are provided. A process for the production of the compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or halogen and Hal is halogen, which comprises reacting 4-methylthiazole with N-halosuccinimide in a solvent in the presence of a radical initiator.
