A thickened nail polish-lacquer removing composition having a smooth, substantially non-granular consistency. The composition is substantially non-irritating and non-sensitizing to the skin surrounding the fingernails and toenails. Upon drying, the residue of the lacquer-removing composition is water-soluble. The composition includes from 51% to 99.9% by weight of butyrolactone organic solvent and/or a propylene glycol derivative solvent and from 0.1% to 5% by weight of at least one water-soluble thickening agent capable of functioning in the absence of a neutralizing agent, and which is present in an amount effective to produce an absolute kinematic viscosity at 20.degree. C. of from 250-10,000 cp.

Une polir-laque épaissie d'ongle enlevant la composition ayant une uniformité douce et essentiellement non-granulaire. La composition est essentiellement non-irritante et non-sensibilisante à la peau entourant les ongles et les ongles d'orteil. Sur le séchage, le résidu de composition d'laque-enlèvement est hydrosoluble. La composition inclut de 51% à 99.9% en poids du dissolvant organique de butyrolactone et/ou d'un dissolvant dérivé de glycol de propylène et de 0.1% à 5% en poids au moins d'un agent d'épaississement hydrosoluble capable du fonctionnement en l'absence d'un agent neutralisant, et qui est présent dans une quantité efficace pour produire une viscosité cinématique absolue à 20.degree.
