A device (10) and method for separating oleaginous matter from a waste
fluid. The device (10) includes a chamber (11) having a fluid inlet (19)
and a fluid outlet (15) between which a fluid, such as waste water, may
pass through the chamber (11). The chamber (11) contains a plurality of
oleophilic polypropylene cylindrical rods (14) disposed in the fluid flow
path between the inlet and outlet. The rods (14) being oleophilic attract
and separate the oleaginous matter from the fluid passing through the
chamber (11). The chamber (11) can also be mounted within a larger vessel
(20) and over a holding container (30) that provides further treatments of
the fluid passing through the device.
