Cosmetic preparations which contain (a) an ester of a hydroxycarboxylic acid and an alk(en)yl oligoglycoside, and (b) a UV protection factor; are described. The correspond to the general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X represents a hydrogen or a --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.3 substituent, Y represents a hydrogen or a hydroxyl substituent, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 each independently represents a substituent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, ammonium, alkyl ammoniums, hydroxyalkyl ammoniums, glucammonium, and residues of alk(en)yl oligoglycosides; wherein at least one of R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represents a residue of an alk(en)yl oligoglycosides, and with the proviso that, where X represents a --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.3 group, Y is hydrogen.

Kosmetische voorbereidingen die (a) een ester van een hydroxycarboxylic zuur en een alk(en)yloligoglycoside, en (b) een UVBESCHERMINGSFACTOR bevatten; worden beschreven. Beantwoord aan de algemene formule (I): ## STR1 ## waarin X een waterstof of a -- substituent CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.3 vertegenwoordigt, vertegenwoordigt Y een waterstof of een hydroxylsubstituent, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, en R.sup.3 elk vertegenwoordigt onafhankelijk een substituent die uit de groep wordt geselecteerd die uit waterstof, alkalimetalen, alkalische aardemetalen, ammonium, alkyl ammoniums, hydroxyalkyl ammoniums, glucammonium, en residu's van alk(en)yl bestaat oligoglycosides; waarin minstens één van R.sup.1, R.sup.2 en R.sup.3 een residu van een alk(en)yl oligoglycosides vertegenwoordigt, en op voorwaarde dat, waar X a -- groep CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.3 vertegenwoordigt, is Y waterstof.
