The present invention relates to a fiber which comprises at least one partly crystalline cycloolefin copolymer which can be prepared by polymerization of a symmetrical polycyclic olefin, an acyclic olefin and, if desired, a monocyclic olefin in the presence of a catalyst system comprising an aluminoxane and a metallocene compound of the formula ##STR1##
