The use of compounds of the formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different, electron-withdrawing radicals chosen from the group consisting of cyano, alkyl- or arylcarbonyl, alkyloxy- or aryloxycarbonyl and optionally substituted aminocarbonyl, R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl radical or a C.sub.3 -C.sub.20 -cycloalkyl radical or a radical of the formula --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --SO.sub.3 --M.sup.+, where M.sup.+ is a cation, X is the divalent radical of oxygen, sulfur or the radical ##STR2## where R.sup.3 is as defined above, is the divalent radical of the formula II or III, which forms a fused system with the radical of the formula I ##STR3## where R.sup.4 can be bonded one or more times to the benzylidene ring I or naphthylidene ring II, and is hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkyloxy, cycloalkyloxy, alkoxycarbonyl, mono- or dialkylaminocarbonyl, alkylamino, dialkylamino, each having up to 20 carbon atoms, and also cyano, amino and SO.sub.3 --M.sup.+, where M.sup.+ is a cation, as photostable UV filters in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations to protect human skin and human hair against solar rays, alone or together with compounds which absorb in the UV region and are known per se for cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations.

Der Gebrauch der Mittel des Formel I ## STR1 ##, in dem R.sup.1 und R.sup.2 identisch oder unterschiedlich sind, die Radikale, die von der Gruppe besteht aus Cyano gewählt werden, Alkyl oder arylcarbonyl, alkyloxy- oder aryloxycarbonyl und beliebig ersetztes Aminocarbonyl, R.sup.3 Elektron-zurücknehmend ist ein Wasserstoffatom, ein C.sub.1 - C.sub.20 - Alkylradikales oder ein C.sub.3 - C.sub.20 - cycloalkyl radikal oder ein Radikal von der Formel -- CH.sub.2 -- CH.sub.2 -- SO.sub.3 -- M.sup.+, in dem M.sup.+ ein Kation ist, X ist das zweiwertige Radikal des Sauerstoffes, des Schwefels oder des radikalen ## STR2 ##, in dem R.sup.3 ist, wie oben definiert, ist das zweiwertige Radikal der Formel II oder III, die ein fixiertes System mit dem Radikal des Formel I ## STR3 ## bildet, in dem R.sup.4 ein oder mehr Mal zum benzylidene abgebunden werden kann schellen I oder naphthylidene Ring II, und ist Wasserstoff, Alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkyloxy, cycloalkyloxy, alkoxycarbonyl, Mono oder dialkylaminocarbonyl, alkylamino, dialkylamino, jedes, das bis 20 Kohlenstoffatome hat, und auch Cyano-, Amino und SO.sub.3 -- M.sup.+, wo Kation, als photostable UVFILTER in den kosmetischen und pharmazeutischen Vorbereitungen, zum der menschlichen Haut und des menschlichen Haares gegen Solarstrahlen, alleine oder zusammen mit Mitteln zu schützen, die in der UVREGION aufsaugen und an sich für die kosmetischen und pharmazeutischen Vorbereitungen bekannt.
