A compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 -R.sup.13, X, Z and Q are as defined above, useful in the treatment of arthritis, cancer, and other diseases involving the dysregulated production/release of reprolysins such as Aggrecanase and other diseases characterized by matrix metalloproteinase activity. In addition, the compounds of the present invention may be used in combination therapy with standard non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's), COX-2 inhibitors and analgesics, and in combination with cytotoxic drugs such as adriamycin, daunomycin, cis-platinum, etoposide, taxol, taxotere and other alkaloids, such as vincristine, in the treatment of cancer.

Un compuesto del ## del ## STR1 del fórmula en donde R.sup.1 - R.sup.13, X, Z y Q están según lo definido arriba, útil en el tratamiento de la artritis, cáncer, y la otra participación de las enfermedades dysregulated production/release de reprolysins tales como Aggrecanase y de otras enfermedades caracterizadas por actividad del metalloproteinase de la matriz. Además, los compuestos de la actual invención se pueden utilizar en terapia de la combinación con las drogas antiinflamatorias no-non-steroidal estándares (NSAID), los inhibidores COX-2 y las analgesias, y conjuntamente con las drogas citotóxicas tales como adriamycin, daunomycin, cis-platino, etoposide, taxol, taxotere y otros alcaloides, tales como vincristine, en el tratamiento del cáncer.
