In accordance with the present invention, there are provided methods for enhancing the color of gemstone(s) by subjecting a combination of a gemstone and at least one finely divided form of a selected treating agent including the element copper to a temperature in the range of about 700.degree. C. up to about 1000.degree. C., for a time period in the range of about 3 hours up to about 600 hours, under conditions suitable to enhance the color of the gemstone, wherein the treating agent consists of a finely divided form of the selected treating agent such as copper metal or copper oxide, and wherein said gemstone is topaz or sapphire and the enhanced color lies in the color spectrum of light yellow to red.

In Übereinstimmung mit der anwesenden Erfindung gibt es zur Verfügung gestellte Methoden für das Erhöhen der Farbe von gemstone(s), indem man eine Kombination eines Edelsteins und mindestens einer fein geteilten Form eines vorgewählten behandelnden Mittels einschließlich das Elementkupfer einer Temperatur im Bereich von etwa 700.degree unterwirft. C. bis zu über 1000.degree. C., während eines Zeitabschnitts im Bereich von etwa 3 Stunden bis zu ungefähr 600 Stunden, unter den Bedingungen, die verwendbar sind, die Farbe des Edelsteins zu erhöhen, worin das behandelnde Mittel aus einer fein geteilten Form des vorgewählten behandelnden Mittels wie kupfernes Metall- oder Kupferoxid besteht und worin besagter Edelstein topaz oder Saphir und die erhöhte Farbe ist, liegt im Farbe Spektrum von hellgelbem zum Rot.
