The collectible item may be formed from a mixture of the rare material and a common base material. The weight ratio of the base material to the rare material in the mixture is in the range of 1:1 to 1000:1 such that the rare material changes the color and/or the texture of the base material. Alternatively, the collectible item may be formed from a common base material, and the rare fragment may be coupled to the collectible item.
