Ribavirin derivatives represented by formula I ##STR1## wherein at least one of R.sup.2, R.sup.3 or R.sup.5 is a straight or branched chain polyalkylene oxide polymer conjugate, and pharmaceutical compositions containing them as well as their use to treat patients having susceptible viral infections, alone and in combination with a therapeutically effective amount of interferon-alpha are disclosed.

Ribavirin de derivaten die door formule I ## STR1 ## waarin minstens één van R.sup.2 worden vertegenwoordigd, R.sup.3 of R.sup.5 een rechte of vertakte het polymeerstamverwant is van het kettings polyalkylene oxyde worden, en de farmaceutische samenstellingen die hen evenals hun gebruik bevatten om patiënten die vatbare virale besmettingen hebben, alleen en in combinatie met een therapeutisch efficiënte hoeveelheid interferon-alpha- te behandelen onthuld.
