The present invention provides a diazonium salt represented by the
following general formula (1) wherein R.sup.1 represents a branched alkyl
group; R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 separately represent an alkyl group and may
bond to each other to form a ring; R.sup.4, R.sup.5, and R.sup.6
separately represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aryl group and
R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 may bond to each other to form a ring; and X.sup.-
represents an anion and a heat-sensitive recording material comprising a
heat-sensitive recording layer including the diazonium salt and a coupler.
