A method for prevention or treating myocarditis, dilated cardiomyopathy and
heart failure comprising administering to a patient in need of such
treatment a NF-.kappa.B inhibitor in a therapeutically effective amount,
wherein said NF-.kappa.B inhibitor is a benzoquinone derivative
represented by the following formula (I):

R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each independently a hydrogen atom, an
alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbons or an alkoxy group having 1 to 5
carbons;
R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxymethyl group, an alkyl group, or a
carboxyl group which is optionally esterified or amidated;
Z is
##STR2##
and n is an integer from 0 to 6,
or its hydroquinone form, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, is
provided.
Une méthode pour l'empêchement ou la myocardite de traitement, cardiomyopathie dilatée et arrêt du coeur comportant administrant à un patient nécessitant un tel traitement un inhibiteur de NF-.kappa.B dans une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace, où ledit inhibiteur de NF-.kappa.B est un dérivé de benzoquinone représenté par la formule suivante (i) : ## du ## STR1 où R.sub.1, R.sub.2 et R.sub.3 sont chacun indépendamment un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe alcoyle ayant 1 à 5 carbones ou un groupe alkoxy ayant 1 à 5 carbones ; R.sup.4 est un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe hydroxyméthylique, un groupe alcoyle, ou un groupe carboxylique qui est sur option estérifié ou amidé ; Z est ## du ## STR2 et n est un nombre entier de 0 à 6, ou son forme d'hydroquinone, ou un sel pharmaceutiquement acceptable en, est fourni.
