An adapter for releasably attaching a syringe to an injector includes a
first section and a second section connected about a hinge axis that is
generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the adapter. The first
section and the second section are rotatable about the hinge axis between
an open position to allow loading of the syringe into the adapter from a
position to the rear of the hinge axis and a closed position to retain the
syringe therein. The hinge axis is preferably off-center from the
longitudinal axis of the adapter and the adapter further includes a
releasable mounting mechanism positioned on a rearward end of the adapter
to mount the adapter in a desired position relative to the front wall of
the injector.
