The present invention relates to a process for selective liquid phase
hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds of the general formula I,

R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different and are each independently
hydrogen or a saturated or a mono- or polyunsaturated straight-chain or
branched, optionally substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alkyl radical, an
optionally substituted aryl radical or an optionally substituted
heterocyclic group,
to give the corresponding alcohols of the general formula II

where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each as defined above,
in the presence of hydrogen and a Pt/ZnO catalyst.
La présente invention concerne un procédé pour l'hydrogénation liquide sélective de phase des composés carbonyliques de la formule générale I, ## du ## STR1 où R.sup.1 et R.sup.2 sont identiques ou différents et sont chacun indépendamment hydrogène ou des C.sub.1 à chaîne droite ou embranchés, sur option substitués mono- ou polyinsaturés saturés ou - C.sub.20 - radical alkylique, un groupe sur option substitué radical ou hétérocyclique arylique sur option substitué, pour donner les alcools correspondants du ## général du ## STR2 de la formule II où R.sup.1 et R.sup.2 sont chacun comme défini ci-dessus, en présence de l'hydrogène et d'un catalyseur de Pt/ZnO.
