A thin-film magnetic head has a lower shield layer and an upper shield
layer which are each composed of two layers of a first shield sub-layer
and a second shield sub-layer. The second shield sub-layer has a specific
resistance higher than that of the first shield sub-layer. Thus, even
though the gap length become shorter, the second shield sub-layers and gap
layers ensure electrical insulation, and therefore, an electrically
insulative thin-film magnetic head can be achieved.
