Safety swimwear with an automatically retractable buoy secured in a manner
not interfering with play in and out of the water, the float providing no
buoyancy for the child but having sufficient buoyancy to remain on the
surface and thus serve as an aid in locating the child whenever the child
is submerged. The connector for the float is a permanent part of the
swimwear so as to determine the location of the float relative to the
wearer and increase the likelihood of the use thereof. In some
embodiments, the detachable buoy may take the form of a beach toy.
