An improved camouflaged product and method of making such a product is
disclosed. A multi-layered camouflage construction may comprise a first
textile substrate and a second textile substrate secured to each other
along parallel lines of stitching. The second textile substrate may be cut
to form lobes oriented transversely to the lines of stitching to simulate
the appearance of natural objects in the terrain, such as leaves or
foliage. Thread which is capable of shrinking is used to attach textile
substrates to each other, and then the thread is heated to shrink the
thread into the stitch, forming a hardened seam with gathering and
bunching of one or more substrates along the seam. Gathering of substrate
along a seam contributes to the three-dimensional visual effect of the
camouflage construction.
