The present invention discloses an optically active polyester comprising at
least constituent units represented by the general formula (I) and the
general formula (II):

aromatic group or a bivalent heteroaromatic group, and X.sup.1 and X.sup.2
each independently represents a hydrogen atom or an electron-withdrawing
group,
