Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are
compounds of the formula (1):

wherein X is selected from halogen and R.sup.2 SO.sub.4 ; R.sup.3 is
selected from C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkyl or hydroxyethyl; R.sup.2 is
selected from C.sub.1 to C.sub.22 alkyl and C.sub.1 to C.sub.22 mono and
dihydroxyalkyl; and R is selected from of C.sub.1 to C.sub.16 alkyl,
C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 hydroxyalkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkoxyalkyl and
benzyl.
Koppler für Haarfarbtonaufbau für das oxydierende Färben des Haares sind Mittel der Formel (1): ## STR1 ## worin X vom Halogen und von R.sup.2 SO.sub.4 vorgewählt wird; R.sup.3 wird von C.sub.1 zu Alkyl C.sub.2 oder Hydroxyäthyl- vorgewählt; R.sup.2 wird von C.sub.1 zum Alkyl C.sub.22 und C.sub.1 zu Mono C.sub.22 und dihydroxyalkyl vorgewählt; und R wird von von C.sub.1 zum Alkyl C.sub.16 vorgewählt, von C.sub.1 zu Hydroxyalkyl C.sub.10, von C.sub.1 zum alkoxyalkyl C.sub.6 und von Benzyl-.
