A process for the preparation of a compound of the formula (I):

wherein R.sup.1 is CN or CSNH.sub.2 ; X is N or CR.sup.4 ; R.sup.2 and
R.sup.4 are each independently hydrogen or chloro; R.sup.3 is halo,
haloalkyl, haloalkoxy or --SF.sub.5 ; R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each
independently alkyl and n is 0, 1 or 2; said process comprising reacting a
compound of the formula (II):

wherein the symbols are as defined above and W is H, with an alkylating
agent of the formula (III):
R.sup.6 --Y (III)
wherein R.sup.6 is as defined above and Y is a leaving group. The process
may also be conducted by reacting a compound of formula (II) initially
with an inorganic salt or an organic base, and reacting the resultant salt
of the compound of formula (II) with the alkylating agent.
Un procédé pour la préparation d'un composé de la formule (i) : ## du ## STR1 où R.sup.1 est CN ou CSNH.sub.2 ; X est N ou CR.sup.4 ; R.sup.2 et R.sup.4 sont chacun indépendamment hydrogène ou chloro ; R.sup.3 est halo, haloalkyl, haloalkoxy ou -- SF.sub.5 ; R.sup.5 et R.sup.6 sont chaque indépendamment alkyl et n est 0, 1 ou 2 ; ledit processus comportant réagissant un composé de la formule (ii) : ## du ## STR2 où les symboles sont comme défini ci-dessus et W est H, avec un agent d'alkylation de la formule (iii) : R.sup.6 (iii) --Y où R.sup.6 est comme défini ci-dessus et Y est un groupe partant. Le processus peut également être conduit en réagissant un composé de la formule (ii) au commencement avec du sel inorganique ou une base organique, et en réagissant le sel résultant du composé de la formule (ii) avec l'agent d'alkylation.
