A sheet conveying device has a sheet-position detection sensor which has
CCDs or CISs and which is attached in an inclined manner such that a
vertical distance from the sheet-position detection sensor to a
sheet-conveying path or to a sheet conveyed along the sheet-conveying path
differs between the proximal edge and the distal edge of the
sheet-position detection sensor in a direction perpendicular to the
sheet-conveying path.
