A methine compound which is represented by the following formula (VI):

R.sub.8, R.sub.9 and R each represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent; A
represents a heterocyclic ring containing an aromatic ring; X represents
an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or N--R.sub.10, wherein R.sub.10 represents
a hydrogen atom or a substituent; L.sub.1 and L.sub.2 each represents a
substituted or unsubstituted methine group; and n represent 1 or 2. Also,
a material for organic luminescence element and organic luminescent
element using the same are disclosed.
