A method is disclosed for quantifying the extent a cataract impairs vision
in an eye having a pupil, an ocular lens, and a retina. The method
includes illuminating a localized region of the retina such that light is
reflected from the localized region and is transmitted through the ocular
lens. A portion of the reflected light is scattered by the cataract
associated with the ocular lens. Light reflected from the localized region
of the retina is collected, and the amount of scatter is measured so as to
quantify the extent the scatter impairs vision of the eye.
Un método se divulga para cuantificar el grado que una catarata deteriora la visión en un ojo que tiene una pupila, una lente ocular, y una retina. El método incluye iluminar una región localizada de la retina tales que la luz está reflejada de la región localizada y transmitida a través de la lente ocular. Una porción de la luz reflejada es dispersada por la catarata asociada a la lente ocular. La luz reflejada de la región localizada de la retina se recoge, y la cantidad de dispersión se mide para cuantificar el grado la dispersión deteriore la visión del ojo.
